This was particularly so in Division1 where Martin Jones claimed the win with 64 nett having shot a gross 73. He was pushed hard by the consistent Mark Jones and Owen Rees both posting 66 nett and grosses of 70 and 71 respectively. Mark's 70 was the best gross of the day.
Division 2 saw Richard Jones edge out Viv Jones on last 9 count back both having scored nett 70's.
Division 3 was won by Carwyn Williams who beat David Evans again on back 9 count back when both had scored nett 70's.
Congratulations to our own Cathryn Thomas on gaining notable success at the recent Golfing Union of Wales,Welsh Ladies Senior's Open Championships at Porthmadog Golf Club. Cath won the Marriner Brigg Trophy for the Best 18 hole Net Score for the two rounds of the Championship. Overall she was tied 20th with her gross score and 12th best of the Welsh entries, beating the legendary Vivien Saunders with her gross score. The field of 70 included entrants from all over Wales, England and Europe. Her score of 70 was the lowest net score for 18 holes over the two days.
Sunday 6th of September saw over a 100 people accept Club President Phil Evans's invitation to a day of great competition, warm hospitality and an opportunity to support a wonderful charity. The competition was of a high standard with some excellent scores posted.
The European Tour has "The Race to Dubai" and we at Glynhir have our "Race to Glory" where the two most consistent golfers in this summer's qualifying competitions will win the Gross and Nett orders of merit respectively. This will allow the winners to bask in the adulation of their fellow members and win a modest trophy. As many multi millionaire golfers have said "golf is not all about winning millions"!!
What a fantastic day at Glynhir yesterday a record 98 entries for the Club Championship! After all the effort and drama of 36 holes of golf with scores counted and verified we had another worthy champion in Dylan Howells who displayed the class to also win the Nett Championship.
